Eight years ago my family stumbled into the crab business and never looked back. I spent every summer working at the crab shack to save money for college and of course help out my family. After graduating from UVa with a degree in biology, I was dazed and confused. Like most kids with a degree in one hand and zero experience in the other, I prolonged real life for a bit by working yet another summer at the crab shack. The business had grown so much and the need to expand presented a unique opportunity- for me to become a business owner. One larger retail store and an on-line store that ships seafood across the country, www.crabpie.com, I am learning something new every day. Maybe one day I'll go to grad school, but right now I'm having too much fun cooking crabs!

Alexandra VanCleve: Hi! I'm Ali VanCleve here at Capt. Jack's Crab Shack and I'm here to show you how to cook and eat Alaskan Snow Crab. Now, I'm going to show you how to cook them.
You want to start off by making sure that the steamers are at a roaring boil, make sure that, that water is nice and hot. So just grab a couple of clusters, plop them in there, make sure that when you put them in there, that they are fully submerged. We're going to make sure that everything cooks evenly or preheats evenly.
Put the lid back on and since they are fully thawed, it's going to take about 4 to 5 minutes, but if you want to put them in there frozen, that's fine too, it will take about 8 or 9 minutes. It's been about 4 to 5 minutes, so let's go ahead and check the Alaskan Snow Crab.
It smells pretty good! Let's pull one out. Set the lid down, and it feels pretty hot, so it's good enough for me. Shake them out a little bit, do a little dance, transfer them to a plate, Old Bay to taste. I'm from the East Coast so I have to have Old Bay on all my seafood, but you don't have to. And there you go.
