Hi, I am Geremi Weiss, Im an International gold medalist for the US in figure skating. Today were here learning basic hockey drills. This one is kind of moderate to more advanced drill, these are called forward cuts around the cone. Youre going to need a little bit of speed into the cone, and then you cut around it as close and as tight to the cone as you can. So, Raya (ph) here today is going to show us cuts around the cone, forward cuts around the cone. She is going to bend her knees and stay super close to the cone, and then she comes to the other one at the other side, bending her knees, staying as close as she can to the cone. She can go around once or half. Try it again; bend your knees and sink down and close to the cone on one side, bend your knees and sink. Good, other way, and sink, excellent. Two more, staying close to the cone, lean in towards the cone, and last one, very nice, lean into the cone, good. Raya is using her shoulders very well, she is twisting into the turn. In hockey skating you need to learn how to take tight cuts, and so this is how we teach you, these are called forward hockey cut around the cone, staying close. Right now Raya is going to do a backward cut around the cone. She is going to sprint forward into the cone, turn quickly, and then stay close going backwards around the cone. So, I will show you and you follow, turn and cut, okay. Rotate in and cut, excellent. Now, rotate into the other side, okay. So, were going to go to the left, sprinting, turning over your left shoulder, bend your knees, and cut around the cones, and cut around the cone, thats it.

One more time, when you do your twist into it, bend and sink and rotate around, okay, use your shoulders, backward cut around the cone, staying tight and close, excellent, good. One more time, other side. You can do these both sides; one to the right and one to the left. Inside and sink down low, good, those are backward cuts around the cone. Teaching hockey skaters, if theyre going forward they can quickly change positions, rotate and stay tight to the center, tight to the puck, backward hockey cuts around the cone.
