Hi, my name is Geremi Weiss, Im an International gold medalist in figure skating. Today were here to learn some basic hockey drills. This particular one is really to build strength in your quads. Its called a one foot skiing or one foot slalom. Youre going to use your inside and outside edges as you bend down and up, and Raya (ph) here today is going to show us that. She is going to keep her hands in front while she holds her hockey stick out. She is going to bend down on, inside and outside edges. Her leg thats in the air can be in back or in front, wherever she feels comfortable. Lets do the left foot. Remember, when youre doing this drill, you want to really use your quads and pull off the heel, your weight stays to the back. Again for me; down and up motion again, down and up, using the quad muscles. Last time, very nice, left foot. You can do this in a straight line on this drill, you can also do it in a circle. This builds strength in your quads, its called a one foot slalom or a one foot wiggle, its a basic hockey drill to build up strength through your quads. Raya is going to show us a drill called backward one foot wiggle or backward slalom on one foot. Make sure when youre doing this that youre working right and left to keep the balance. Were working on building strength in our quads so that the skater can become a faster, stronger hockey skater. She is going to start on that leg, using her inside and outside edges that she pull, there is a rhythm to it and she has got it, very nice, go again. That rhythm, it is down on the edge and then up as she changes position, down on the edge and up as she changes on the position. Two more times. You can do this in a straight line, you can also do it all the way around the rink and try not to touch your foot down. One more time; chest is lifted, knees are bending, use the rhythm, stay to the front of your foot when youre doing backward one foot wiggles. Your weight should always stay on the front of your foot, towards the back of the foot when youre moving backwards, thats going to strengthen your quads and allow you to become a better hockey skater.
