Hi, I'm Geremi Weiss, I'm the US International gold medalist in figure skating. Today were starting to learn some basic hockey drills. This one could be for the very beginner because they get to slide around on the ice a lot. It teaches the child or the adult how when they fall onto their knees on the ice, there is a quick fast way to get up. This one is called knee slides, we call it down, down, up, up. Raya here today is going to have a little fun with us and show us how to do it. Shes going to drop down on one knee, go to the other and up and up, perfect, do that again. Starting with a little bit of speed shes going to push, push, push, shes going to drop, drop, and up, up. Thats the one with the turn, so do that again. Ready? Down, down, up, up, excellent. As she goes down on her knees, you have a tendency to start to slide around down there, so what she was doing was using her upper body to catch her balance and come up. Raya was one of the more advanced skaters and you saw her turn through one, thats another drill, but you can do that when you're down there and you lose control, which a lot of times happens in a hockey game, you just get right back on your feet again and stroke away.

This can be done for the beginner because were down low to the ice. Its also good for the more advanced hockey player, but this is more for the beginner because what were doing is teaching the hockey person how when they fall, how fast can they get up. So, Raya here is going to show us how to do what we call superman and youll see why. Shes knees, shes belly, shes knees and up. She is going to do that one more time, very good. The objective here is as you fall, straight down on your belly and up quick, good, perfect. Thats called superman; we go knees, belly, and how fast can you get back up to your feet and continue stroking down.
