Derek Campbell: Hi guys, I am Derek Campbell, Video Game Expert. And today, we're talking about 'Ghostbusters: The Video Game'. Right now, I am going to give you a quick review. So let's hold off on those tutorials for just a bit.
Surprisingly enough, Atari and Columbia Pictures have done a heck of a job with this one. Normally, I find video games based on popular movie titles are big waste of your precious time and money. But that's not the case with 'Ghostbusters: The Video Game'.
From the very beginning, you'll find the CG to be picture perfect. Especially, if you have got an HD television. The music is straight from the original sound track and the game story is written by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis or Ray & Egon to be uninitiated. The entire cast is voiced by the original voice actors.
The game actually takes place in 1991 and focuses on a new recruit, happily named 'The Rookie'. You can actually find his letter of acceptance in the first couple of pages of the instruction manual. Personally, I think it would have made a pretty good trilogy.
Now, a little bit on the game play. The control scheme is simple yet intuitive, intended to detail make the game nostalgic and innovative. Make sure to spend a lot of time in the Ghostbusters headquarters. There is a lot of things to interact with to get you back in the swing of things.
The levels are actually quite intricate and a lot of fun to diverse through it. Virtually, all objects are breakable and walls take realistic damage as well. The effects from the proton stream are specially satisfied. And since, there are no real consequences for blowing up stuff, it's easy to find yourself spending extra time, racking up the expenses on the city's dollar for your own personal enjoyment. The Boss Fights also include some interesting mechanics that help set them apart from the standard ghost catching. There were portals to use as escape browse, mask that need to be torn off and much, much more. Now, that's not to say that there isn't some bit of repetitiveness that slows down the excitement just a bit.
Some of the single player games can quickly become repetitive in nature, and some areas of the game just feel too long. But overall the gaming experience of 'Ghostbusters: The Video Game', is a positive one. It really doesn't long to get into the game, and when you do, it sort of feels like you're playing an interactive movie.
So that's the review on the game. Next, we'll talk about basic game play.
