Missy Henriksen: Hi! I am Missy Henriksen, Vice President of Public Affairs for the National Pest Management Association. Today I am discussing how to select a pest professional, and more specifically why you should take into consideration when hiring a professional, especially when facing a pest infestation.

Although it's often the first sign of a pest problem that makes you pick up the phone, you shouldn't wait until there is a major infestation. Professional pest management can and should the easiest part of preventing pests. Prevention is as important to ensuring that we provide the safest and healthiest living environment for your family as proper treatment.

Whenever you have a pest related concern, you should choose a pest professional who can meet two requirements: first a pest professional must be able to effectively and efficiently treat the pest problem; second a pest professional should be one you can trust to protect both your family and your home.

Here are just a few key tips to help you select the pest professional. First evaluate qualified and licensed pest management firms that are members of national, state or local pest management associations. These companies are typically the most current in and committed to ongoing education.

Next ask friends and neighbors to recommend pest companies they have used successfully and how satisfied they were with their service. Word of mouth references are likely honest evaluations and when you can believe. If a sizable amount of money is involved, you should be encouraged to pursue best from several pest management companies. Don't rush a decision. You are paying for professional knowledge.

Hire a firm whose judgment can be trusted. Before signing a contract, bu sure to fully understand the household pest, the extent of the infestation, and the work necessary to solve the problem. If a guarantee is given know what it covers, how long it lasts, what you must do to keep it in force, buy value not price.

Choosing a pest professional is a health and safety decision, the value of the service should outweigh all other factors. If you employ these tips and are willing to do just a little bit of homework, you will undoubtedly find an outstanding pest professional who will not only solve your pest problem, but also work with you closely to prevent future infestations from occurring in your home.
