It all started in my early teens washing cars in the back of my fathers barber shop. After eight years in the United States Secret Service, I made an unsuccessful run for the United States House of Representatives in 1980. In 1981, I decided to start my own business, Pro Clean of Tysons Corner, Inc. After 26 years of success, we are still washing and detailing cars from Volkswagons to Rolls Royces and have grown to be one of the largest detailing businesses in the Washington DC area. “It takes more than a bucket and a hose to clean a car”, Washingtonian Magazine, 1986

Hi, I am Michael, Pro Clean of Tysons Corner and today we are going to learn how to detail an automobile. Now that we have got the door jams and the trunk done, we are going to go to the engine. Basically the same products that we used before, we are using the heavy duty cleaner. We got it hosed down first, very lightly, put a light little coat of cleaner again. Again it depends on how dirty the engine is. If its an engine that has 100,000 miles on it, thats filthy dirty obviously you are going to have to use more chemicals on it. Give it a a little coat of across there; make sure you have your gloves on. Let it sit for a couple of seconds. Then get your wash mitt out again. Same mitt that we used on the tyres and the rims, get the edge, around the edge here of the tyres around where the hinges are and all these things, these are the things that you want to get cleaned and everything. Go across the top of the motors, most of the grease and the grime, the chemicals are going to dissolve. There is really not much rubbing to do in it. When you have an engine that you can see electrical components on, try to keep off of them. You dont want to saturate those things; you dont want to get them soaked in water. Its not a hard job to do. Now that we got it all cleaned up, we are going to take our hose. Very lightly open it to a cone as we said before, give it a little rinse down, get the edges over there, get all the edge, plastic, the radiator areas things like that, get those all rinsed off. Then get on to the engine. Always moving it, dont hold the hose in one spot, on it like that, thats too much water to be putting on an engine. Okay thats pretty much how we detail an engine. Next we are going to move on to doing a basic wash job on the outside of the car and then we are ready to finish detailing it.

hey if it works on the kitchen tiles by sadiq823 at 03/13/09 09:06AM Flag
it MUST work on car paint and engines! also, make sure you don't mask off any electrical bits in the engine bay. it's, um, more fun that way.

Dirty buckets, old rags, using the same wash mitt to clean the wheels/tires AND the paint??? Dear God man, 409 is NOT an all-purpose automotive cleaner!!! Car care fanatics around the world are currently poking their eyes out and screaming in horror. DO NOT let this shop "detail" your car!!!!
