Celestial Seasonings Senior Blendmaster Charlie Baden explains why tea is a healthy and delicious way to consume certain herbs that address specific health ailments including a sore throat, sleeplessness and upset stomach.

Charlie Baden: Hello! My name is Charlie Baden, Senior Blend Master with Celestial Seasonings, and today we are going to talk about how to stay healthy by drinking tea. In this series, we are going to be covering a few topics, we are going to be starting with inside the tea bag with the different ingredients that make tea. We are going to look at the different ways of brewing tea because it is very, very critical for water temperature and for brew times for the different ingredients that are used in tea. We are also going to talk about the overall health and wellness benefits of tea. We are going to talk a little bit about how they can help with your cold and flu symptoms. The next topic we will be talking about combating other health ailments that tea can soothe and be beneficial with. Next topic will be using tea as a natural sleep aid. Last topic will be pairing different teas with different food groups. I do need to mention hot water is a safety issue that everyone always has to look at, the potential for burning yourself. So you have to be very, very careful as you are brewing your tea. Let me give you a little brief history of Celestial Seasonings. We have been around for more than 40 years; we are the number one specialty tea company in the United States. We are in based in Boulder, Colorado and all the tea is manufactured here in Boulder. We produce 70 different blends here at Celestial Seasoning, we use over 100 different botanicals from 35 different countries. We produce and people brew about one and a half billion cups of our tea every year. My particular job is to make sure that the ingredients as they come in match our goal and standards. I go through 200-300 cups a week, and probably in my 34 year history I have gone through a few 100,000 cups of tea tasting. Okay, before we start learning about the many benefits of tea, let's look at tea and find out the true definition of what tea really is.
