Randy Peterson: Hi, Everybody! Randy Peterson once again with Storm Bowling Products and Roto Grip. We are talking about how to select the proper ball for you and today specifically, we're going to talk about selecting the right bowling ball for the beginning bowler.
Now, don't be intimidated by this. It's real simple, if you follow a few of these easy steps. Hey! Let's talk about the Grip for beginning bowlers. I've got a bowling ball here. And typically beginning bowlers use what's call the conventional Grip. That's where the middle finger and the ring finger going to the second crease. All you do is pull that thumb back and drop it in, spread those two fingers out. This is your typical conventional grip for beginning bowlers.
Hey! Let's talk about how heavy a ball you should throw. Remember bowling balls start at 6 pounds and go all the way up to 16. I think the most important factor here is making sure, that you don't use a ball that's too heavy. Because that will promote injury.
You want to make sure that you can throw a ball comfortably for at least three games without feeling any fatigue or any pain. I actually use a 15 pound. I used to use 16, but as I got older I found that a 15 pound ball is much more manageable. Another great point, as you get a little older, consider dropping down a pound or two, it will make you much more comfortable and make the game a whole lot more fun.
Hey! Let's talk about the right ball for the beginning bowler. Now typically, beginning bowlers always got into a plastic or polyester ball for a couple of reasons. Number one price and number two, it's very easy to control, because you are going to see very little hook with a plastic or polyester ball.
Lately we have seen a trend happening in our sport where the beginning bowler wants to see their ball curve. And for not that much more money, we see a lot of beginning bowlers stepping right up into what we call entry level reactive resin. This ball is made out of your urethane. And urethane is going to grip the lane much more than a plastic ball, therefore seeing some motion or some hook on the lane.
Hey! Next up, we are going to talk about the right ball for you, league bowlers.
