Joe Newland: Hello! My name is Joe Newland. I'm a Product Development Manager for Black & Decker's Outdoor Products division. In today's video, we're going to show you how to cut and maintain your lawn with many different options. In this video series, we'll talk about preparing the mower, preparing your lawn and actually getting ready to mow and the options for doing that. Next, we'll talk about different techniques that could be used for mowing, be it bagging or mulching. We're going to talk about clean up after mowing and then we'll talk about sharpening the blade, maintaining a proper blade and then cleaning and storing the mower. Then, we'll talk about edging and trimming your lawn.
Before we get started cutting the grass, let's talk about the different options we have for mowing. The first option we have is a gas mower. Obviously, it uses gas, oil; requires tune-ups. Gas mowers are also available and self-propelled for properties that are in excess with third of an acre. That's a real advantage to a gas mower is the flexibility for larger properties. The disadvantage, again, is gas, oil and potential starting issues.
Next we have corded electric option. The advantage to these mowers are they are the lightest mowers that's available, they're very easy to push. It requires no gas, no oil, no tune-ups; very little maintenance. Next, we have the cordless electric option. This is ideal for properties up to one-third acre. It does not require an extension cord like the corded version. It does not require gas, oil, has no starting issues and no expensive tune-ups. This is a great option for lawns, one third of an acre, when you want simplicity and ease in cutting your grass.
So those are the walk behind mower options. The other products that you will need for maintaining a great looking lawn will include a string trimmer for trimming, the edges, a lawn edger for trimming along your sidewalks, all of which we will talk about later in this video. It's very important to read the instruction manual thoroughly for all the lawn equipment before use and follow all warnings and safety instructions.
