Annie Ariolo: Hi I'm Chef Annie Ariolo with Harris Teeter and today we're making Moroccan Citrus Avocado Smoothies. The ingredients which we'll need are one ripe Avocado chilled, one tablespoon natural honey, one and a quarter cups chilled skimmed milk and one quarter cup freshly squeezed orange or lemon juice.

To begin a Moroccan Citrus Avocado Smoothie we'll start wit the ripe Avocado and how you can tell if the Avocado is ripe? Is if you press them like this and you'll leave a little bit of an indentation. You want the Avocado to feel soft to you and to have some kind of a give. If it feels very tough on the outside it's not ripe yet.

So if you know you're going to be making this recipe a couple of days in advance you might want to stock up on some more firm Avocados and that way you'll have them when you need them. This is a great dish and it's something that they drink all the time in Morocco whenever Avocados are in season, they sell it in street stalls. So it's really refreshing and really delicious and it's great for us.

So let's start by just slicing the Avocado and we want to go all the way through here just on either side and when the Avocado is nice and ripe it makes it really easy for us to do that and then we can just twist this way and we have the Avocado come open and then we'll just pull out the ball this way and then you can just score it and we're going to scoop it out. So you can scoop it right into our Smoothie maker or blender whatever you choose.

Avocados are full of healthy fats, so they are really good for us and a nice splurge; they also have a lot of body and consistency to them. So whenever you want to make something that needs a certain creamy texture, but you want to add it vegetable and something that has certain goodness for you, Avocado is really your friend.

So we can go ahead now and also now I'm going to add some honey, this is a natural honey just to make it sweet. You know the idea of Avocado Smoothies is weird for a lot of people, but if you think about vegetable juices, carrot juice, tomato juice things like that it's really not too different it has a great flavor. And if you like Avocados and you like creamy drinks, you're really going to enjoy this one.

So then we have our freshly squeezed orange juice, orange and Avocado are just really a marriage made in heaven, they taste great in salads they taste great by themselves and they taste really good in this Smoothie and here goes in our milk. And then we can add the lid and go ahead and turn this into a Smoothie.

Well that should be enough it has a nice really pretty green color. This is a great accompaniment if you make a delicious Moroccan meal with lamb or couscous or even some nice roasted fish; this is going to have a great accompaniment. It's also really nice pick-me up, if you need energy before or after a workout I think you'll like this drink a lot.

So here you have a Moroccan Citrus Avocado Smoothie. Enjoy!
