Mitch Baker: Hi! I am Mitch Baker with American Plant and we are talking about gardening tips for May. Right now we are going to talk about bringing our indoor plants outside for the warm weather months. So I am bringing a Clivia outside, now that its just about finished blooming. I will also be bringing out a large bamboo palm, thats been inside for the winter, and I have selected a nice shady spot over here for both of these plants. Alright. We have got our plants situated over here on the shady side of the house now and we have brought them over here because plants that have been inside for the winter cant go directly out into the full sun; they need to go through a transition period first. So we bring them over here on the north side of the house. As you can see, this is under a nice tall tree, providing that nice filtered light. Thats the sort of transitional light that we are looking for until we are ready to move them out into more sun, after about two weeks. Thats very important. You bring them outside and put them right in the full sun, you are going to get a lot of tissue damage on those leaves. Those leaves have been inside, they are not used to the direct rays of the sun, so they have to go through a transition period first, then you can bring them out, almost anywhere in the yard you like. But you dont have to, they could spend the whole summer here and they would be quite happy as well. Now that we have brought our houseplants outside for the warm weather, its a good time to feed them as well. So we will go ahead and give them an application of an organic fertilizer and we will water that in right after application. After spending the winter inside the house, these houseplants collect a lot of dust on the leaves. So when bringing them outside, its a good idea to hose down the foliage gently to remove a lot of that dust. So those are some tips about keeping your houseplants looking good outside all summer long. Next, we will talk about lawn care.
