Jill Archibald: Hi my name is Jill Archibald. I'm the Cat Fanciers' Association, Feline Agility Coordinator. Feline Agility is getting your cats to do a circuit of ten obstacles in order as quick as they can. The Cat Fanciers' Association is the largest registry of petted breed cats but any cat can do agility. Let's see what we can do to help you train your cat. Many people feel that cats cannot be trained. But that's not true actually you can use their predatory instincts to help you. Read their body language, the flick of the tail a twitch of the ear. Watch where they're focused, you can use that to help train your cat to do feline agility. In our first video we want to show you how to develop an interactive relationship with your cat. Next I'll show you how to incorporate stairs and jumps into your agility training. You can either use your stairs at home or purchase training steps to practice with. Then we'll go through the types of obstacles used and how to get your cat to maneuver them. To begin, show your cat that an environment where you are will be a safe environment. You'll need treats and toys to help your cat focus and respond and most cats, when their tail goes up. They are ready to respond. For your cat's safety please make sure your cat is ready and willing to practice and that they are healthy and up to date on their shots. Before we begin let me tell you a little bit about myself. I've been teaching physical education since 1971 and I've been in the Cat Fanciers' Association showing petted breed cats since 1973. Once they started Feline Agility, it was an easy segue for me to train my cats, to do agility.
Okay, you're ready for Feline Agility. Now I want to discuss how to get your cat ready for training.
