Mike Binns

Mike, a full-time employee at the VBC, is a graduate of O'Connell High School, where he played for Coach Murray. He was the starting third baseman for the 2001 WCAC Championship team (27-3), which finished the season ranked third in the Washington Post. Mike is very involved in youth baseball in Arlington. Coach Binns has been working baseball camps with the VBC and coaching youth baseball since 2001. In addition, Coach Binns teaches a "learning math and reading through baseball" class at Barcroft Elementary School in Arlington.

I am Mike Binns from the Virginia Baseball Club, lead pitching instructor, and now I am going to talk to you about step three of our pitching motion. Step one we talked about was our Rocker Step, step two is our Pivot, and now step three, were going to talk about our Balance Point.

Now, in our Balance Point we are going to talk about three main things that were looking for. With our Balance Point we are looking for our knee to be up at least even with our waist, so we dont want to just get our knee here, or we dont want our knee to be out here, we want that knee to get up at least even with that waist. The second thing we will look for is going to be our foot. We dont want our foot to be straight out, we dont want our foot to be tucked under us, we want our foot to be right underneath of our knee. The third thing we look for in our Balance Point is what our toe is doing. A lot of people when they come through and come to balance, they point that toe up and that means our weight is going backwards. We dont want that weight going backwards, we want that weight just pinch a little bit forward, so we want to make sure that toe is real relaxed and right under our knee. So, when we come through the three main points we are looking for in our Balance Point is going to be, knee up at least even with our waist, our foot under our knee, and our toe relaxed and pointed down. So, we want it to look like this, with our hands right over that knee. We dont want those hands to be too far out, too far in, we want those hands to be right over that knee.
