Im coach Cassidy for the Virginia Baseball Club, and we are talking about footwork and getting behind a fly ball. Now, we always want to be moving back towards the fly ball even if it's in front of us; we want to be moving back towards where the ball came from. So, if that ball is hit in the air and I know it is going to land right here on the ground, I don't want to be set up under the ball right here. I actually want to take two or three steps back, chop my feet, and be moving back towards that point. So, even if a ball comes off the bat, you know exactly that is going to land right here, we still want to work behind it and get momentum coming back through catching off of our glove foot. Now, what I mean by glove foot is just, whatever side your glove is on, we want to catch the ball with that foot forward. So, my glove is on my right hand right now, I want to catch the ball with my glove foot forward or my right foot forward. We are always catching the ball with two hands and we always want to catch the ball over our head. Reason why we want to catch the ball over our head is. from here I can watch the ball all the way into the mitt. If I get right here in front of my face, I'm blocking my eyes; you need to go over your head, or just to the side of your head. Never take anything for granted; watch the ball all the way into your mitt, catch and cover.
