Dr. Bill Van Tassel: In the course of everyday driving, situations may arise that require special actions to keep or regain control of your vehicle. Hi! I am Dr. Bill Van Tassel, Manager of Driver Training Programs at AAA. In this series of videos, AAA will illustrate techniques that you can use to respond to driving emergencies, such as a tire blowup, sudden unintended acceleration of your vehicle, or a stuck accelerator, or running off the road so that your tires drop off the edge of the pavement.
John Nielsen: I am John Nielsen, Director of AAA Automotive. And while these situations are generally rare, they can be frightening and can happen with little or no warning. So knowing what to do can save you from a serious crash or even worse. Now, every driver should be familiar with the basic driving skills needed to try to regain safe control of their vehicle. Dr. Bill and I are going to show you how to do that. Now, let's go for a drive.
Dr. Bill Van Tassel: Driving can be risky. Between 35,000 and 45,000 people lose their lives in motor vehicle crashes every year. In fact, it's the leading cause of death for people ages 3-33. Fortunately, there are actions that you can take to reduce your risk in the event of a driving emergency. With a short investment of time, you can get the latest recommendations regarding how to deal with specific driving emergencies.
