Transcripts
Mary Alexander: Hi, I am Mary Alexander from Home Instead Senior Care and today I am going to be discussing how to recognize the signs of aging and need for care for your parents.
Home, that one word can counter-up all kinds of feelings, such as safety, love, warmth and family. It's a place we want to be, where we're most comfortable. So it's no wonder that nearly 90% of seniors say home is where they want to be. Well, there are lots of good reasons seniors want to stay home. One of the fears that drives that desire is the potential loss of independence. They want to avoid being a burden on their families and to maintain their lifestyle. They often deny their true need for care and make bad decisions about what they really need to remain at home.
That's why it's important for adult children and others caring for seniors, to look for signs that their elderly loved one needs help. Ignoring these warning signs will likely lead to the kind of dependence that they are trying to avoid.
You don't need to be an expert to determine if your parents might need some extra help. In this video series we will give you some easily identifiable signs to look for that fall into one of three categories, physical symptoms and mental or emotional changes, loss of attention signals and environmental clues.
Lastly, we will discuss a number of ways you can help your senior ensure that they have the assistance they need in order to live their lives safely and comfortably.
