Mary Alexander: Hi! I'm Mary Alexander from Home Instead Senior Care. And today, I'm going to provide some tips for making sure your senior loved ones are getting proper nutrition. We've all heard the old adage; an apple a day keeps the doctor away. Certainly, getting enough fruits and vegetables in your diet is a good thing, and should a life long practice. But as we age, our bodies and internal systems slow and change. Illnesses can pop-up that can require a modification in what we can and can't eat. Often, we don't have the same get up and go; we had even in our midlife. So, we need to reduce our calorie intake.
Helping our elderly parents manage their diets and eating habits can offer them numerous benefits, including increase cognitive function, resistance to illnesses, higher energy levels, an improved immune system, faster recuperation times, and better management of chronic health issues. You don't have to be a nutritionist to help your parents with their diet. You just need some simple guidance, which we will provide in this video series. In the first two videos, we'll talk about why proper nutrition is important, and what can happen if your senior loved one doesn't have good eating habits. This information should help you help your parents understand why they need to be concerned about their diets. In the third video, we'll give you some simply ways to help your parents shop for good food and eat right. At the conclusion, we'll give you some pointers for specific dietary and health concerns, and places where you can get additional health and information.
Home Instead Senior Care, the national leader in providing in-home care services for seniors is bringing you this video series to help you help your senior loved ones. Helping seniors is something Home Instead has been doing passionately now for more than 15 years. I not only work for Home Instead, but I'm a certified Senior Adviser. More importantly, I'm currently a long distance caregiver for my dad, and I spent several months caring for my mom locally. I've seen how important it is to help senior loved ones with proper nutrition and want to share that experience with you. So let's get started.
