Soothing Herbal Tea

Ingredients

1 cup water
1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon Turmeric
1/4 teaspoon Ginger
2 Whole Cloves

Instructions

1.    Combine water, cinnamon, turmeric, ginger, and cloves in a small saucepan or teapot.
2.    Bring to a boil over high heat.
3.    Let steep, covered, for 10 minutes.
4.    Strain into cup and drink warm.

Amy Riolo: Hi! I'm Chef Amy Riolo for Harris Teeter. Today, I'm making an herbal cinnamon and turmeric tisane.

The ingredients which we'll need are: one cup water, one teaspoon ground cinnamon, one-quarter teaspoon turmeric, one-quarter teaspoon ground ginger, two whole cloves and to get started, what we have to do is take our water, however much you would like to have in your cup and pour it into our saucepan or teapot and then we're going to add all of our wonderful spices. And the first thing I'm going to add is a teaspoon of cinnamon and I learned about this in Egypt, because they often make cinnamon tisanes there and they're wonderful. Pure cinnamon helps to regulate blood sugar levels; it also of course has a delicious taste and makes a really nice soothing drink. And then I'm going to add some ginger. Ginger is wonderful, because it helps to speed up digestion and it also helps to calm the stomach and then I'm going to add a little bit of turmeric, which is a wonderful anti-inflammatory, and then I'm going to add two cloves, which are known for their antiseptic properties.

So, this is a wonderful medicinal type of a try, and these types of drinks have been made for thousands of years all over the world, so it's great that you'll be able to make this at home and enjoy it and have a really comforting drink.

So, here are all of our ingredients together, they smell wonderful.

So, I'm going to go ahead and put this on the stove and bring it to a boil.

So now, our cinnamon and turmeric tisane has finished brewing, and you can see it has that beautiful amber color, that's from the cross of the turmeric and the cinnamon, and what I'm going to do, is I'm going to just strain them now and you can see that beautiful color coming through the clear mug and the strainer is catching the little last bit of our spices right here. This is exactly what we want. This smells so wonderful and aromatic. It's wonderful to drink one of these, two, three, four times a day, especially in the winter it's really warming and soothing, and if you want to, you can add a little bit of milk or soy milk to it and it's a wonderful drink.

So, here you have our cinnamon and turmeric tisane.
