Christine: Hi! My name is Christine with Merry Maids. Today I am offering you some tips for spring cleaning. In this segment I am going to be teaching you how to make some of your own cleaning products. By using many different common household products we are able to make some very effective green cleaning solutions. By adding baking soda and some water you can make an abrasive cleaner that's great to use on stove tops, bathtubs and sinks. After mixing you want the product to have the consistency of paste. You can also sprinkle little baking soda and add a little bit of water directly on to the surface. And then scrub with a cloth or nylon scrub brush.

Now I will be making glass cleaner. Take two cups of warm water, add it to a bottle and then you want to add a little mild dish soap. Ivory works great. And last you want to add three table spoons of vinegar. And there you are, you have a great glass cleaner. Now I will be demonstrating how to make a multi purpose cleaner. We'll again need about two cups of water, pour that into our bottle. We will need about a tablespoon-and-a-half of vinegar. And we'll need a little less than tablespoon of baking soda. As a tip, make sure you dry out your funnel. Now you want to make sure to just mix the product together. And now you have a great multi-purpose product that you can spray on glass counter-top, glass table-tops, furniture and so forth. Let's make a product that we can use on varnished wood around the house. Begin with about a half-a-cup of water, add it to your bottle and we want to add just a few drops of lemon oil. Mix the product together. Take a dry cloth and just spray into them. Now if you wanted to make wood cleaner, for every half cup of water we you'd be adding a few drops of lemon oil. Now I will make a product that we can use inside the toilet bowl. I am going to start by adding about a quarter cup of baking soda. Into the baking soda I am going to add about a cup of vinegar. Now notice I used a large container, because when the vinegar reacts with the baking soda it bubbles. You want to start together, baking soda and vinegar. And now you have a great product to use inside your toilet bowl to clean with the scrubber brush.

Next, I will demonstrate how to make a product to use to clean tile, laminate, vinyl or even wood floors if the have a surface finish. I am going to begin with a gallon of warm water. And I am going to add to that a quarter cup of liquid dish soap. I am going to mix the two together before I begin. And if I needed a little extra shine for perhaps a linoleum floor, I will add a quarter cup of vinegar. Again, I just want to make sure I've mixed all of these products together before beginning my project. I hope these solutions help you keep your home clean. Next, I will discuss a few tips to help you keep your home looking its best.
