Patrick Harders: Hi, I am Patrick Harders with Outdoor Lighting Perspectives. Today, we are going to discuss how to install an outdoor lighting system. Some of the things we'll discuss first, we'll teach you how to choose the right fixture and where to place it to make certain that you get the optimal look. The second thing we are getting into is wiring. We are going to show you how to wire up your outdoor lighting system, mounting the transformer and connecting the wires inside of it. Then, we are going to discuss how to install a well light for lighting of the front of the house and also for the trees.

Then, we are going to teach you how to install a bullet light that used for very specific applications. Next, we are going to show you how to install path lights along the pathway and then we are going to install floodlights. We'll install and set the timer and we'll finally finish up with troubleshooting tips and maintenance.

Some of the tools that you'll need for the installation will include a shovel, a screwdriver both flat head and a Philips, a level, a post hole digger. You'll also need a pair of pliers, wire cutters, electric tape and finally a voltmeter. Although, we are working with low voltage wiring there are some safety precautions to consider.

Always call your local utility company before digging. When you are working with your transformer always make sure it's unplugged just for your own protection. I have been in the landscape lighting field for over 11 years. I have designed over 2000 lighting systems and personally I have installed over 1300.
