Sonya Kaster: Hi! I'm Sonya Kaster with the Oliver Foundation, and today, we are going to talk about how to make healthy choices on the go. First, we are going to start off with the most important meal of the day which is breakfast. In today's busy world, we know most of you go out and don't have a chance to get a healthy breakfast; we will be able to take a look at how to have a healthy breakfast on the go. Then we are going to look at how to create a healthy school lunch for your children. We are going to look at things like how to plan, how to get your children involved in the planning process and ways to actually pack a lunch so that way it is something that's not only nutritious, but they will actually eat it as well. And of course, we want to make sure that we are looking at ways to pack a healthy lunch for you adults on the go as well.
So we will look at how you plan to do that and ways that you can incorporate still your favourite items but just in a healthier version. Next, we will also go to a fast food restaurant and how to make healthy choices there. Everyone at some point in time goes to the drive-through or walks into a fast food restaurant and often, we are not aware that there are some healthy choices that you can make. Then we'll go on to ways to make healthy choices at a sit-down restaurant. Still enjoy your favorite meals weather it would be a salad, your favorite vegetable and still be able to have servings from that bread basket, but just to be more aware of what it is that you are eating. And then finally, we are going to end today with ways to make healthy snack choices on the go. The good news is there are a lot of options out there and manufacturers really are working to make those choices even more healthy for you.
But before we get started, let me tell you a little bit about myself. I'm a registered licensed dietician, as well as certified as a school nutrition specialist. At the Oliver Foundation, the main mission is the prevention of childhood obesity. We do this by educating parents, students, teachers, administrators and community members to make healthy choices for life. So let's get started. First, we are going to talk about making healthy choices on the go for breakfast.
