Edible Halloween Masks
Ingredients
1 package (18 oz.) refrigerated sugar cookie dough
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 can (16 oz.) vanilla ready-to-spread frosting
Assorted food color
Decorations, such as:
ROLO Caramels in Milk Chocolate, HERSHEY'S KISSES Brand Chocolates, small (1-1/2 inch) YORK Peppermint Patties, KIT KAT Crisp Wafers in Chocolate, REESE'S PIECES Candy, TWIZZLERS PULL-N-PEEL Candy
Instructions
1. Heat oven to 350°F. Lightly grease cookie sheet or line with parchment paper.
2. Combine cookie dough and flour until mixture holds together. Roll dough into 1/4-inch thick rectangle on lightly floured work surface.
3. Draw two (7- to 8- inch high) Halloween shapes (pumpkin, ghost, witch, etc.) on cardboard; cut out. Cover them with clear plastic wrap. Place over dough; trace around cardboard pattern with knife. Cut completely through dough. Place shapes on prepared cookie sheet. Using a straw, make one (1/4-inch-wide) hole in each side of "mask" where ear would be.
4. Bake 15 to 20 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool slightly; carefully remove from cookie sheet to wire rack. Cool completely.
5. Divide frosting and tint with food color; frost cookies. Using your imagination, decorate cookies with assorted candies. Separate PULL-N-PEEL candy into strands; tie 1 strand into each hole to resemble strings on a mask. 2 cookies.

Linda Stahl: Hi, I Linda Stahl. I am the Director of the Hershey Kitchens. Today I am going to be showing you how to make Edible "Masks". The ingredients we will need are one pack each about 16 ounces refrigerated sugar cookie dough. We have had this out at room temperature for quite a while, so it has really softened up and it's going to be easy to work with.
I am going to take three quarters cup flour and simply start working this into the dough. You can see, I am gradually getting all that flour worked into there, dump that out on to my kitchen counter. And this is going to be almost like you are kneading bread flour for bread dough, you want to get this in there and take it, put into a disc and just flatten it out. Just kind of flatten it out as much as you can and I am going to take a little bit of flour, put it on the counter top, put that down like that. And that's so that you dough doesn't stick. Take some more flour, put it on your rolling pin, again, so that they don't stick and start rolling. I want to have this about a quarter of an inch thick. Now, I have done three different shapes and these started out with your typical cookie cutters. But simply put your pattern on the dough, cut out around the edges. So I am going to take away that extra dough, that's round the edges, that can be re-rolled. I have lined my baking sheet with parchment paper but if you don't have that you can lightly grease the pan. First of all, go around your edges, I am using a cookie spatula, loosen this as much as you can and try to lift it in one piece, just put it on there and you kind of press them back in to position and this is really pliable, press it in your position and once that bakes, they are not going to notice. So there is one, clean up your edges as much as you can. We are going to put the strings on to the mask, we would have. So we are going to use the straw and position about where you think you would be attaching a string to the mask, punch out a little hole. We are going to bake these cookies at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes.
Alright, these look like that they are done, so we are just going to take them out, let them cool slightly, while the cookie is warm and hasn't set up you can go ahead and make that hole just a little bit clearer. And then transfer them to a cooling rack so that they can cool completely.
Use 16 ounces of vanilla ready-to-spread frosting, red and yellow food coloring to make orange and we will be using Twizzlers Pull-N-Peel Candy. You can lift it up, thread from the back and just simply tie this and then just start frosting it over to the edges. I am going to use the Twizzlers Rainbow Twists. I am going to use the green and then I am going to put them up here, just nearly stem. I am going to use a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup Miniature for my eye. I have cut those in half, position the eye there, I am going to use two Reese's pieces underneath, a Hershey's Kisses chocolate becomes my nose, Twizzlers Rainbow Twists become freckles. Put three freckles on each side and finish off with a smile, which we are going to be using the Bones Peel. So here we are and now have our decorated pumpkin mask. So let's try it. See what this tastes like? That's good. So that's how you make an Edible "Mask" for Halloween.
