Paul Simon: Hi! I am Paul Simon, Landscape Horticulturist with the National Gardening Association and today, we're talking about how to build a small greenhouse and now we'll discuss constructing the PVC frame for your greenhouse. We want to make sure that we have all our PVC cut to the right size.

You should have two piles 24 5-foot long segments of three-quarter inch PVC pipe, and you'll have 15 3-foot 10-inch segments of pipe. You may wonder why we have 3-foot 10-inch segments when our rebar is spaced 4 feet apart, reason being we need to compensate for the space that we need for our connection pieces. Once we're connected, we'll have 4 feet exactly.

So first, we're going to be constructing our end sections and then our center support sections. Our end sections to our PVC frame will have three-quarter inch T joints and our centre support sections will have three-quarter inch cross joints. There are two end frame sections, and four center support sections. As indicated in the illustration diagram, the end frame sections will attach to three way T joints while the center support sections attach to four-way cross joints.

Begin at one end of the greenhouse by attaching 4 5-foot PVC sections to 3, 3-way T joints with PVC cement. As you attach the joints, lay the PVC flat making sure that each joint is cemented correctly in place. Repeat this step one time for the opposite end of the greenhouse. This will create the 2, 20-foot end sections. The second step is to similarly attach 4, 5-foot PVC sections to 3, 4-way cross joints with PVC cement. Again, as you attach the joints, lay the PVC flat making sure that each joint is cemented correctly in place.

Repeat this step three times for the additional center supports. This will create 4, 20-foot center section supports. Now, attach 3, 3-foot 10-inch horizontal supports to connect a 20-foot end section to a 20-foot center support section with PVC cement and be sure the glue dries for at least two hours preferably overnight.

With help, install these completed sections into two rebar at one end of the greenhouse footprint. Carefully bend the sections as an arc and attach to the opposite side to the corresponding rebar supports. Repeat this step for the opposite end of the greenhouse.

Connect the two remaining center support sections with 3, 3-foot10-inch horizontal supports using PVC cement. Again, carefully bend and attach the center support sections to the rebar located on the center sides of the greenhouse footprint.

Finally, attach the 6 remaining 3-foot 10-inch horizontal support sections using PVC cement connecting all the remaining sections together in place to form a completed grid. For complete list of materials, you can go to our website at www.

org. Okay, so that's how you construct your PVC frame. Up next, I'm going to show you how to construct the end walls and door frame.
