Paul Simon: Hi, I am Paul Simon, Landscape Horticulturist with the National Gardening Association. And today we are talking about how to build a small greenhouse and now I am going to show you how to build the base frame for your greenhouse.

Once your PVC structure has been constructed and installed, and you finish the end frame for your greenhouse, you are ready to install the base frame.

The base frame will provide additional support for your PVC frame and your end walls. It will also provide a place for you to secure your polyethylene sheeting for your greenhouse.

First, dig a trench along the entire base parameter of the greenhouse, approximately 4 inches deep. Remember, your greenhouse is 14 feet wide by 20 feet long with the door at one end when sizing the length of your 2/10 base material.

You can now place the 2/10 treated lumber into the trench and secure to the three-quarter inch pipe frame using 12 pipe clamps and one-and-a-half inch galvanized screws.

The 2/10 base end frames located at either end of the greenhouse can be secured to the 2/10 side frames using 3 inch long galvanized screws.

You can also provide additional support to your base frame by securing it with steel corner plate brackets. Secure your 2, 2/10 base frames together using steel mending plates and one-and-a-quarter inch galvanized deck screws.

Finally, you want to refill the trench, where you'll even install your base frame with the excess fill material. Okay, that's how you installed the base frame.

Up next, I am going to show you how to install the polyethylene sheeting.
