Hi, I'm Lisa Wilson, Certified Health Counselor in Northern Virginia. Were making organic baby food ages 8-12 months, and were going to start adding fat, yes, babies need fat. They absolutely need fat for cell repair, for brain development. There are some fats to avoid, you absolutely want to avoid partially hydrogenated oils, no trans fats in your baby's diet. You absolutely want to avoid vegetable oils, they are very delicate and they can be damaged by the time they get to your table. So, what do we do? Well, I have got some healthy fats for you I want to show you. The first one is an extra virgin, organic cold pressed, unrefined olive oil. Unrefined is the key, it's very hard to find, but you can do it. Go to your local markets, you can find it online. An extra virgin coconut oil, it's a little bit sweet to the taste, babies love it, you can add it to their soups. Actually coconut milk is actually high in fat, high in lauric acids, similar to mother's milk. A beautiful butter, again, when were talking about butter, same thing with the farms, you want to find it from a pastured farm. I go ahead and just make my butter from the cream that I receive from my local farm. If you don't have that option you can go ahead and just buy it, make sure youre buying the organic butter from the supermarket. Here is some beautiful chicken stock that I made last night, again, you can do this with beef stock, you can do this fish stock, and finally of course, keep adding mother's milk.
