Phase II of making your own baby food will introduce you to food combining for your baby. This video will walk you through timing, allergic reactions to foods, mineral rich broths for baby and proteins. This is the transition phase before baby is completely eating what the family is eating.

Hi, I'm Lisa Wilson, Certified Health Counselor here in Northern Virginia. Were working on baby food ages 8-12 months. Now, your baby is already been introduced to fruits, to vegetables, to proteins, slowly one at a time for three or four days, and now comes the fun part. Now, we get to start food combining. So, Im just going to show you a few combinations that you might be able to try at home. I pureed this up earlier. You can get a good look at it, this is our broccoli, and this is the chicken, remember how beautifully that came out. If you wanted, you could just go ahead and stir those two together right now. Now, last night for dinner my family had a little bit of this deep water cod, and we also steamed this beautiful cauliflower. Its nice and tender, we cooked it last night, its ready to go. But the one Im going to show is actually this chicken, again, I cooked this chicken overnight in a soup. Im going to actually go ahead right now and put it in my food processor, a little bit of chicken right in there, its going to get a little messy. Here comes these sweet potatoes. Now, these are gorgeous. I have baked these this morning at 350 for almost two hours, actually you dont have to, about 90 minutes I think will be fine, but these were a little longer that that. When they bake thoroughly, they will go ahead and just peel right out of the skin. Sweet potatoes, my daughter used to -- we would make sweet potatoes for a meal and none of us would get any, she would get the whole thing. Okay, so, sweet potatoes, right there, there we go. Were just going to add one, I think that will be fine. Now, remember, babies need fat, so to this one Im going to add a little bit of coconut oil. Extra virgin coconut oil right in there, just a little bit. It adds texture, it adds a little bit of sweet delicious flavor. Then yesterday when I was at the market, I picked up some thyme. I have already washed this, rinsed it off, its fresh organic thyme. Thyme is so easy to get right off. There we go, sprinkle a little thyme right in there. Herbs actually are going to help your baby develop those tastes for all these delicious foods. Now, you can put mothers milk in here, Im going to go ahead and put some chicken broth in. Again, this is from a big pot of soup I was cooking up overnight. Freshly prepared, here we go. Okay, this is a meal, I mean anybody could eat this meal, this is going to be more like a soup. So, go ahead and just grind that to the desired consistency. Im going to put a little more. If your baby is older your baby will be able to take this consistency, its a little bit thicker, but Im going to add a little more, trying not to get it too roily, one more time. Perfect. Good, oh, this smells so good. You know what, you could even add a little more liquid if you want to, just turn this right into a soup. Any time, this is great for baby. Im just going to go ahead and scoop this right onto a plate, this is gorgeous. In fact, Im going to go ahead and try this. You know what, rule of thumb, dont give your baby anything that you wouldnt eat yourself, and I would eat this anytime.
