Gwen Hall: Hi! I'm Gwen Hall, Dean of the School of Security and Global Studies for American Public University System.
Today, I'm talking about the importance of accreditation. Accreditation is a voluntary non-governmental process that gives public recognition to institutions that need publish standards of academic and administrative quality.
The purpose of accreditation is to assure the public of the quality of an institution and its dedication to high standards as well as its commitment to continuous improvement. Be sure to do some research and seek out a University that has a solid reputation and that is legitimately accredited at the national and regional levels.
Universities that award undergraduate and graduate degrees and certificates should be accredited by the regional higher learning commission, the same institution that accredits traditional universities. In addition, they should be recognize by the U.
S Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. Also make a point to check professor biographies posted online on LinkedIn and on other social media networks, highly credentialed faculty with significant experience in their field will help dramatically enrich your learning experience.
Online education doesn't have to be and shouldn't be solitary, ask what communities your online university offer student for research, discussion, mentoring, and socializing.
