Every Child By Two (ECBT) was founded by Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter and Former First Lady of Arkansas Betty Bumpers in 1991 as a result of the measles epidemic that killed over 120 people, many of them children.  Carter and Bumpers have been working on immunizations since their husbands were governors in the early 70s and have been credited with the passage of laws mandating school-age vaccination requirements.  The goals of ECBT are to raise awareness of the critical need for timely immunizations and to foster a systematic way to immunize all of America's children by age two.  To forward its agenda, ECBT enlists the support of elected officials and their spouses, concerned community leaders, and representatives of many national organizations. ECBT also devotes a great deal of time to educating the public about the safety of our nation's vaccine supply through its Vaccinate Your Baby campaign. ECBT has valuable resources available on both of its websites -www.ecbt.org and www.vaccinateyourbaby.org

Amy Pisani: Hi! My name is Amy Pisani and I am the Executive Director of Every Child by Two. Today, I am talking about vaccines and during this video I'll discus the important reasons why you should vaccinate. Simply put, vaccine save lives. You have the power to protect your family from dangerous illnesses like measles, proptosis, and pneumonia. Being a parent is a big responsibility. The best thing you can do for your family's health is to learn the facts, so you can make the best choices.

Thanks to our nation's successful vaccination program. Parents today have been spared witnessing the devastating effects of many diseases. Polio for example paralyzed millions of children worldwide before the vaccine was created. And prior to the development of the vaccine for measles, about 3 to 4 million cases of measles occurred each year in the US causing approximately 48,000 hospitalizations and 3000 deaths. Throughout the world, measles still infects nearly 23 million people each year. Although vaccines are readily available in United States, some children don't receive the vaccines on time. This leaves them vulnerable to many diseases.

Dr. Paul Offit: There are viruses and bacteria out there that can cause us to suffer or be hospitalized or die and over the last 200 years medicine has advanced to protect against a number of them. The job of a parent is to put their child in the safest position possible, vaccines provide that safety.

Amy Pisani: By vaccinating children, adolescents, and adults, we can keep deadly and debilitating diseases at bay, but only if we work together as a community to ensure timely vaccinations.
