Janet Riley: Hi! I am Janet Riley with The National Hot Dog and Sausage Council, and today I'm going to teach you how to make perfect tailgating gift. It's called a Frankly Fabulous Dip.
The ingredients you'll need for today's recipe are a half pound of hotdog dogs, 128 ounce can of crushed tomatoes, 8 ounces of sour cream, a half cup of chopped green onions with the green tops included, one quarter teaspoon red pepper sauce, one quarter teaspoon black pepper, two cups shredded cheddar jack cheese with jalapeno peppers, and some dippers like tortilla chips and scoops.
We're going to start by mincing hot dogs into four pieces and then we'll place them in a food processor. So we'll just blend these hot dogs together in the food processor. Then we want to puree them using a pulsing action. When it's smooth we then blend it into a slow cooker with other ingredients. We're going to want to add 8 ounces of sour cream, some jalapenos, some green onions again with the tops included, some cheddar cheese, pinch of black pepper, some red pepper sauce.
We're going to add our can of crushed tomatoes, we will stir it altogether, and then we put the lid on the slow cooker and let it cook for about an hour-and-a-half until it's steaming hot. So we've let this dip cooking the slow cooker for about an hour-and-a-half and this is just what we're looking for. It's steaming hot cheesy. So at this point we're going to pick it up and transfer it into a foil pan. So now what we're going to do is cover this pan in a sheet of aluminum. You can make it -- you can refrigerate it until you're ready.
When you get your tailgate simply place it on indirect heat for about 20 minutes with the foil on. When you serve this you tell people its Frankly Fabulous Dip and ask them to guess the secret ingredients. I bet no one will realize its hot dogs.
