Janet Riley: I am Janet Riley and I am President of The National Hot Dog and Sausage Council, and I'm now going to teach you how to make All-Star Chili Dogs. This is a great recipe, because you can make the chili ahead and take it to your tailgate and reheated on the grill and then top your hot dog.
You'll need Chili Sauce that requires 3/4 pound of ground beef, 1 cup of chopped onion, 1 8-ounce can of tomato sauce, one-half teaspoon Worcestershire sauce, one-quarter teaspoon hot pepper sauce, one-half teaspoon chili powder, one-half teaspoon salt, one-quarter teaspoon pepper, one teaspoon brown sugar, 8 hot dogs, cooked according to package directions, 8 hot dog buns, split and lightly toasted and Cheddar cheese which is optional.
To make it, we're going to start by browning our ground beef in a saut pan with onions and we're going to saut until the ground beef is brown and then we're going to drain the fat. Now we're going to add a tomato sauce, a Worcestershire sauce, some chili powder, a little bit of brown sugar, some hot sauce, add a little extra zest, and a pinch of pepper, and a pinch of salt.
And we're going to mix it altogether in a pan and then we're going to let it simmer for about 10-12 minutes, until it's nice and rich, and will make a great topping for our hot dogs.
So we let our chili here to cook for about 10 minutes, it's looking great and while it is cooking, we started grilling our hot dogs and we toasted some buns. So, now I'm going to transfer two hot dogs to my toasted buns and then I'm going to top it this great looking chili sauce.
And then we top it with a little cheese, and remember that you can make the chili ahead of time, just reheated on the grill at your tailgate in a foil pan. And it will be a big surprise for your guest when they see, they can have a chili dog and there you go, All-Star Chili Dogs. Enjoy!
