Janet Riley: Hi! I'm Janet Riley, and I'm the President of the National Hotdog and Sausage Council. Today, I'm going to teach you how to make sausage and vegetable kebabs with mustard sauce. This is a great recipe, because you can prepare the kebabs in advance, store them in a foil pan in your cooler, and then you can throw them on the grill your tailgate. It adds a lot of color and a lot of nutrition to your tailgate.

We all know we need to eat more vegetables, but sausage makes vegetables taste better. You'll need two tablespoons of white wine vinegar, one tablespoon of olive oil, two tablespoons of Dijon mustard, one teaspoon of coarsely ground black pepper, one pound of fresh bratwurst or Italian sausage links, one large red pepper washed, seeded, deribbed, and cut into one inch squares. Once small zucchini washed, ends removed, and cut into three quarter inch slices, 12 firm cherry or grape tomatoes washed.

Let's start by making our mustard sauce and for that we're going to need some white wine vinegar, some Dijon mustard sauce, some olive oil, and a pinch of pepper. We mix that altogether and set aside. Now that we have our sauce made we're going to take a skewer that's been soaked for about 30 minutes in water and soaking a skewer helps prevent flare-ups on the grill.

So next we're going to slice our Italian sausage into chunks like so. Now we're going to begin threading the vegetables and alternating with the sausage. We want to make sure we leave a little bit of room between the sausage and the vegetables. So it cooks thoroughly and you want to make sure that you skewer the sausage through the casing so it stays on properly.

Next, we'll add a cheery tomato, another piece of sausage, zucchini, more sausages and then we'll repeat. When we have our kebabs prepared, we'll then brush them with the mustard sauce like so across the sausage and the vegetables. This is going to give it a great taste and a nice color. Now you can either take these prepared like so to your tailgate or you can throw them directly on the grill at your home.

So here we are with our grilled sausage and vegetable kebabs and mustard sauce. They look great. So we're just kind of remove them using a fork into a bowl. It looks fantastic. I'm going to try a bite. The mustard really adds a nice flavor.

Now we used Italian sausage, but you can also use bratwursts to cook these. And remember, you can make all this ahead of time, you can simply throw it on the grill at your tailgate. It adds vegetables like I said, sausage makes vegetables taste better. Enjoy!
