Transcripts
Kevin Hinds: Hi! I am Kevin Hinds; I'm an L.
L Bean Snowshoeing Instructor here in Freeport, Maine. I'm here today to talk to you about snowshoeing. It's a fantastic winter activity where it's great to get outside, there is a low learning curve, it's really easy to do and fun for the whole family; just a great way to experience the outdoors all winter long.
[Music Playing]Now that we've talked about why snowshoeing is fun, we're going to talk a little bit about the gear and apparel you'll need to enjoy the activity, also some of the basic techniques for snowshoeing. How to go forward? How to back up? How to turn? And when you fall, how to get back up which is really important, and then going up and down hills and also working on getting over obstacles. And then some things that you may want to bring while you're snowshoeing just in case and also to be very well prepared. One of the nice things about it is if you can walk, you can snowshoe and you can do it right out of your backdoor.
Before we get started, let me tell you a little bit about myself. I'm an instructor here at L.
L. Bean for Snowshoeing and Cross-Country Skiing. I've been snowshoeing since I was a little kid on the old style wooden snowshoes that look like big tennis rackets with no crampons, but they're a lot of fun, and I've really enjoyed the new technical advancements over the years and I've continued snowshoeing throughout my life. Since 1912, L.
L. Bean has been all about making it easy for people to enjoy the great outdoors. So let's go hit the trail.
