Mary Luehrsen: Hi! I am Mary Luehrsen and I am the Executive Director of the NAMM Foundation, and I am here to talk about the value and importance of music for babies.
Can we imagine not singing to a baby when we hold it in our arms? We know that it soothes and comforts the baby and makes them feel connected to us and to their world. But we actually know that it does more for a little baby than just soothing them. It actually stimulates and motivates their mind as they are growing. The same way we baby talk or sing, their mind is expanding and growing pathways for later learning in life, because really a baby is born wired for music in the same way that they are wired for language. So sing to your baby for the sheer joy of it and also remember it's helping the baby to learn and grow with music.
