Transcripts
Menzie Pittman: Hi! I am Menzie Pittman with the National Association of Music Merchants. Learning how to play an instrument isn't just for kids. There are many proven psychological and health benefits for people who participate in recreational music making. But in this video, I am going to discuss the physiological benefits for adults who play music.
Nothing thing I've ever experienced helps concentration like making music. You focus on learning songs and bring concentration to a whole new level. Also with music, you experienced increased relaxation. After a hard day at work, nothing is more relaxing than sitting and making music.
Through music, you'll also come to know regulated breathing. Because music is played in tempos, it helps breathing and respiration rates regulate naturally. You find relaxation, and through relaxation, you find that you naturally have a reduced heart rate, and you will find a natural improvement in dexterity. You'll also find a natural improvement in balance and the understandings of the rhythms of life. You find a very natural way to reduce stress hormones, whether it's quietly sitting with a guitar or getting aerobic with playing drums. Making music is not just for kids, it's for adults too. Enjoy!
