John Nielsen: Hi! I'm John Nielsen with AAA's Approved Auto Repair. Maintaining your car is generally pretty easy, but one of the areas where there is tremendous opportunity to make mistakes and actually caused damage is by using the wrong fluid.
Over the past several years there's been a tremendous increase in the variations in the fluids we use in our engines; including engine oil, engine coolant, brake fluid, transmission fluid and even power steering fluid. So it's imperative that you use the right fluids in your car.
Now your best guide is going to be the owner's manual, simply open it up and it will tell you the fluids to use for each of the systems in your car. Failure to use the right fluids or maintaining them in the wrong periods can not only affect the performance in long term life of your engine, but it can also affect the warranty of your vehicle.
So take the time to learn the right fluids for your vehicles and make sure that you're changing them in the right intervals to protect your investment in the long run.
