Gary Uhl: Hello! I'm Gary Uhl of American Standard. Today we're going to discuss the safety features that you should consider when purchasing a walk-in tub. Look for grab bars that are built-in and well placed for use. A user will instinctively grab at the top edges of the tub and the door to feel secure. Be secure that they're designed to support the user's weight. Guidelines recommend that grab bars be installed within easy reach, and at a slight angle towards the user. Once the tub is installed you may add additional grab bars around the area to facilitate movement. A good walk-in tub comes through the textured floor that allows for grip even when the floor is wet. Be sure to install a faucet that has some kind of anti-scald device. Scalds can be an important issue, especially for children and the elderly. Check the codes in your area to make the proper choice. A walk-in tub allows you to remain in your home environment even in times of need; safety is an important consideration when you're choosing the tub that's right for you.
