Jamie Page Deaton: Now let's talk about how the GMC Terrain drives, but before we do let's talk a little bit about its fuel economy. Now that may seem a little bit dry, but most reviewers are really excited about the fuel economy on the Terrain, and they have pretty good reason.
According to the EPA, the Terrain gets 22 miles per gallon in the city and 32 miles per gallon on the highway. That's a best-in-class highway fuel economy rating and better than even what some cars get. So you can see why reviewers are excited.
Now you can only get that fuel economy if you go with the base four-cylinder engine and get the Terrain in front-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is available as an extra cost option, and it is handy if you drive in bad weather. But just know that it adds weight, so you're going to take a hit on fuel economy.
You can also opt for the V6 engine that's available on the Terrain, but most reviewers say that you shouldn't. It's because the V6 has worse fuel economy than the four-cylinder, costs $1500 more, and doesn't offer that much more power. A few reviewers say that the V6 is handy if you carry heavy loads or do towing, but the vast majority say the four-cylinder engine is the way to go. So let's take this four-cylinder engine Terrain out on the road and see how it drives. Most reviewers say that on the road, the Terrain is smooth and comfortable. It's not particularly exciting to drive, but it's pleasant and it will get you around town just fine. It has a six speed automatic transmission and that comes with a manual shifting mode, but most reviewers say that no matter how much you shift it, it's not going to feel like driving a sports car.
Now a few reviewers complain about the optional 19-inch wheels. They say that though the wheels look good, they make the ride a little bit harsh and bumpy. So think about that if you're trying to make a fashion statement with your Terrain.
Another thing that reviewers complain about is the brake pedal. A couple reviewers say that it feels just too spongy. Now the car stops just fine, they just aren't happy with how the brake pedal feels. So that's something you will want to check out when you go in for a test drive.
So the bottom line on how the GMC Terrain drives is, reviewers don't have that much to say good or bad about how it handles itself on the road. They say it's pleasant, but not exciting to drive. It's not the most powerful car in the class, but it does have the best-in-class highway fuel economy rating, which means it will go further on a tank of gas than almost any other car in its class.
