Jamie Page Deaton: If you're looking at an SUV instead of a car chances are you've got some stuff to haul. So let's take a look at just how much cargo the GMC Terrain can handle. Now the Terrain actually doesn't have as much cargo space as some other small SUVs. The Toyota RAV4 and the Honda CR-V both cost less than the Terrain and have more cargo space.

But what they don't have is the Terrain's massive center console. It's actually big enough to hold a laptop. Now the downside is the center console doesn't lock, so your laptop may not be as secure as you like, but it will be out of sight.

The Terrain's cargo area has almost 64 cubic feet of cargo space. So we did a bunch of tests to show you what that actually means.

In our grocery bag test we were able to fit almost 15 bags which is plenty for a whole Saturday's worth of errands. We were also able to fit several suitcases plus a stroller. That means family road trip should be no problem. And there's plenty of room for taking the dog to the park or to the vets.

Now if you need to carry larger items you're going to have to fold the seats down. Luckily, the seats are pretty easy to fold, but they don't fold flat. But with the seats down we were able to fit this bike in.

So even though the Terrain's cargo space is just average size and not as big as some other compact SUVs. Most reviewers say there's plenty of space for most family's needs. You can fit plenty of bags for a grocery trip and even enough space for a road trip or two.
