Jamie Deaton: This is the Toyota 4Runner. The 4Runner is a midsize SUV. That means it competes against SUVs like, the GMC Acadia, Chevrolet Traverse and Ford Flex. However, it's different than most SUVs in its class, because it rides on a truck-based platform, and is a capable off-road vehicle. Now in the past, that is contributed to a somewhat rough on road ride, poor fuel economy and a less than luxurious feeling to the 4Runner.

With the most recent redesign, Toyota has remedied a lot of those problems. Now, it's got an upgraded V6 that has decent fuel economy. It has an optional third row seat that makes it a viable option for families. Plus on the road, the ride is more comfortable than it used to be. Now bottom line is, the 4Runner is a more practical alternative to offered SUVs like the Toyota FJ Cruiser and the Jeep Wrangler. Plus, well, it may not be the most affordable, luxurious or fuel-efficient SUV in the class, it's a good choice for active families who like to go far off the beaten path.
