Jamie Deaton: Let's talk about how well the Toyota 4Runner handles passengers in car seats.

As you can see, there's good space in the front. Base models have cloth upholstery. If you want leather, you are going to need to get the limited model. We have a 4Runner Trail model here, so we have this water resistant cloth upholstery that helps it stay clean and it's pretty rugged and matches with the off-road character of the trail model.

Base models have manually adjustable seats and a tilt and telescoping steering wheel. However, you can get power seats and on the limited models you get power and heated seats. Now that you know the front seats in the 4Runner are comfortable, let's take a look at the back seats.

Now as you can see, I have got pretty good legroom, but if you're taller and you're in the backseat, you will probably have to negotiate with the front seat passengers for legroom. Now there are seats for three across here in the back, but most car reviewers say that if you are carrying adults, you will be most comfortable if there are only two adults in the back. Also in the backseat, there is space for two car seats.

Now one thing that's nice about the 4Runner, is on base and limited models, you can get an optional third row seat, which is rare for an off-road vehicle or it's nice because it increase its seating capacity. Like most cars in this class, reviewers say that the backseat is really cramped and best just for kids.

So the bottom line on the 4Runner seating is, there's good space in the first two rows and while it's nice to have that optional third row seat, it's really only suitable for very small passengers.
