Jamie Deaton: Let's talk about the cargo space in the Toyota 4Runner. As it turns out, the 4Runner has good cargo space for an off-road SUV, but when you compare it to most SUVs in the class, the cargo space is just about average.

One thing that is impressive is that the base 4Runner comes with 10 cup holders even though it only seats five people, plus, if you opt for the third row seat, you get 12 cup holders. So when you hit the trail, everybody will be able to bring plenty of fluids and stay hydrated. Now here in the front for small item storage you have the typical center console and glove box.

Now let's talk about the 4Runner's cargo space here in the back. Now for an off-road vehicle, the cargo space is pretty good, but you should know that if you go for the optional third row seat on the 4Runner, cargo space suffers. Behind that optional third row, there is only 9 cubic feet of cargo space, which is enough for about a row of grocery bags, but not really anything else.

Now if you don't go for the third row seat, behind the second row there is 46.

3 cubic feet of cargo space, which is just a little bit above average for the class. One nice feature you can get on the 4Runner is the sliding rear cargo deck. It slides out, so instead of having to lift your cargo up and into the back of the 4Runner, you only have to lift it onto the deck and then slide it on the deck. It's pretty handy, because the lift over height on this car is a little bit high.

So you know that the 4Runner has pretty good cargo space for an off-road vehicle and handy features like this sliding rear cargo deck, but if you go for the third row seat, just know that while you can bring more passengers, you won't be able to bring that much stuff with you.
