Richard Posluszny: If you suffer from arachnophobia, this maybe the cure, the Porsche Boxster Spyder. Don't let the creepy crawly name turn you off, the Boxster Spyder has been engineered to do one thing, throw up the road, but while carving canyons is fun, there is a car with those one thing and one thing only make sense for you, let's check it out.
The Spyder is actually the flagship of the Boxster line up, although there is one little thing that's a little bit peculiar, it's actually less practical than the Boxster and Boxster S, which have functional roofs, more interior features, and they're more comfortable, but there is a point to the Spyder, because the Spyder has more power, it's lighter, and has distinctive exterior cues such as the two rear humps on the rear deck.
When you compare the Boxster Spyder to the Base Boxster and Boxster S, you might think the Spyder is the greatest rip-off ever attempted by a car company. It's the most expensive model, but things like cup holders, the radio, and air conditioning are optional. The top is tiny, the seats are thin, it doesn't even have metal door handles, just cloth pulls, but if you think the Boxster Spyder is a rip-off you're missing the entire point of this vehicle.
Driving is the point. Although the Boxster and Boxster S are still high-performance cars, they are still able to be used on a day-to-day basis. The Spyder on the other hand, it's a bit more hardcore and it's just a bit too much over the edge. It's more so a toy, because its focus is on performance, no distractions simply performance. If you're looking for a high-performing drop top any model in the Boxster line will do.
However, if you want a car with day-to-day usability, stick with the Boxster or Boxster S. On the other hand, if all you want to do is drive, not listen to the radio, not make phone calls, then you can afford to have a car that's just about the open road. Most car reviewers say that the Boxster Spyder is tough to beat. Sure, you have to buy another car for your daily life, but when you're in the Spyder and you have a road to yourself, I highly doubt you'll be complaining.
