Richard Posluszny: Sit down inside the Jeep Grand Cherokee and you will probably like its interior features. Most reviewers think the quality is much better than in past models, although some say the materials aren't as good as what's in the competition. However, the Grand Cherokee doesn't skimp on interior features. Let's check them out.
When you think about rugged off-road, you probably don't think, it will look this good and this luxurious. When you think of a jeep, you probably won't think it looks this good either but that's the thing. That several viewers have pointed out that this is a big step for Jeep; the company has come a long way.
And when we look at little details like there is leather trimmed dash up here and the doors up here as well, you really begin to realize that this car is something else. It's a kind of a new direction for jeep in Chrysler Group. One nice thing is the touch points in this car, which is this big meaty steering wheel that has controls on the front and even on the back so you can control functions within the system here.
Then there is the option navigation system which is pretty good. As you can see there is not too much allegro or anything like that and it will get you where you need to go pretty quickly.
Another nice little built-in feature is the rear view camera in the back that has a nice crisp display that gives you just a nice little kind of feel of how close you are getting to something that's behind you. If you have kids riding at the back seat of the car, DV monitors are optional and you also have two unique TV options.
The first one is Sirius Satellite TV, which is basically an in vehicle satellite TV system. The thing is though it costs about $1500 and it's only optional on the limited and overland editions. The second option is Flo TV, which is a Mopar accessory available through your Chrysler dealer.
The Grand Cherokee makes serious strands for a company that wasn't really known for its interior space. The basic Grand Cherokee doesn't come full loaded but there is still some nice touches. Some examples are a power driver seat with lumbar support, a passenger seat that folds forward and flat and a Sirius Satellite radio.
The Grand Cherokee has easy to use controls, self fitting finish and when you are working with trim levels, it's got some impressive equipment. But is it impressive enough to beat the competition, check out our other videos to find out.
