Kristen Bixler: There are several areas in your home during the winter and summer months that cause energy loss. Follow these easy tips to prevent energy loss. First, cover any door gaps by using weather strip seals. This will prevent drafts from entering your home. You can also prevent door drafts by applying a door bottom seal and eliminating the gap underneath your door. Another good weatherization option is window kits. These kits help seal drafts and keeping cool or warm air. Next, I recommend outdoor faucet covers. Cold weather can cause your pipes to freeze and faucet covers help prevent this by insulating the faucet against your home's exterior.
Exposed pipes are another area of energy loss. Applying covers helps insulate hot and cold pipes. A water heater blanket will also reduce energy cost. The blanket is simply wrapped around the water heater and kept on all year rounds. And finally socket sealers, drafts can enter through outlets and switch plates. To prevent this, simply add socket sealer to all of your outlets and switch plates for added energy savings.
These tips will save you money and energy and keep you and your family comfortable all year long.
