Tom Nardone: It's October; time to talk about pumpkins. First, to get inside the pumpkin, I use this tool. It's called a drywall saw. It cuts through the tough flesh a lot better than a kitchen knife can. You can buy one of these at a home center for about $6. I cut the plug, and when I do so, I don't make the plug round, because then it's difficult to figure out how it went back in. I cut it with a little jog in it. That allows me to always know that it goes back into place the right way. Now that we've cut open our pumpkin, it's time to get the goop out, and the tool I use for that is this. It's an ice-cream scoop.

I like an ice-cream scoop with a nice edge on the side. That helps to scrape the pumpkin. So when you scoop in the goop of a pumpkin, there are two schools of thought. Most people take it one scoop at a time, pull it out, and throw it in the trash. But, here is a pro tip for you. What I do is I scrape all of the goop and I get it all to collect in the bottom of the pumpkin, then I pick up the pumpkin, and dump the whole thing into the trash at once. The result is I am a lot cleaner, and it's a lot faster. So there you go! Some great Halloween pumpkin carving tips; happy Halloween!
