Transcripts
Dr. Elisa Mazzaferro: When you make the important decision to bring a new puppy home, there are few important things to consider before welcoming the new member of the family.
First, puppy proof your home, before bringing the puppy home. Eliminate any electrical wires and telephone cords that might be dangle enticing your puppy to chew on them, which could cause strangulation, or electrocution. Secondly, be prepared with the crate and several baby games, so you can gradually introduce your puppy into it's new home environment. The first night at home with your puppy, could be challenging and require a lot of patience. Provide a safe and secure environment in a crate for your puppy.
Remember that many puppies will whimper. So be prepared, for a lot of potty breaks. Often, every couple of hours, introducing your puppy, into the home environment and getting it used to routines will be very important for potty breaks as well as socialization, playtime, as well as eating time. But be patient, and with time your puppy will learn it's new routines. With little time and patience, and armed with these practical tips. You should have your puppy happy and healthy in his new home.
