Chris Maxa: Hi I am Chris Maxa with the Kite Loft and today were going to learn how to fly stunt kite. In this segment, were going to actually launch our kite and get it going up in the air and finding a steady balance and a control while youre flying. Weve already learned about everything, how to set it up, how to find the wind window, where the strongest and the weakest parts of the line are going to be and where to fly? At this point, you are going to want to grab both your kite handles, put your wrists through the loops on both right and left, remembering that your lines are going to run parallel back towards the kite. You can see here that my kite line is in good shape, its running parallel back towards my kite and I am standing up wind from it, ready to fly.
What you do at this point, is youre going to take a step or two back putting tension on the kite line. What that does is, that raises the kite up into a launch position, so that the nose of the kite is pointing straight up at the sky. This is known as the launch position; this is one thing thats going to really happen. You are going to take both of your lines, put your arms out in front of you and I am going to pull down to my side while taking a quick step back. Thatll allow my kite to have air shot into the sail and the kites actually going to shoot straight up in to the air. So I take my lines, take a step back, pull on my sides and up it goes. Once my kites in the air I am going to want to find a balance This is done by bringing your hands to the center and finding the proper medium in controlling your kite. In the next segment, I am going to teach you how to control your kite, learn some specific maneuvers and really get going.
