Carol Klopfer: Getting in and around Miami is a breeze. Most arrive by air to Miami International Airport, the largest US gateway for Latin America and the Caribbean. If you prefer a bus, Greyhound has stations near the airport Downtown and in North Miami. Train travel will take you to the outskirts of the city where Amtrak Silver Meteor and Silver Star trains operate from Miami to New York. Taxis are one of the most convenient ways to travel around Miami, easy to hail in the City Center or Miami Beach. Reputable cab companies are just a phone call away in quieter parts of town. Once you hop in a car, elevated expressways connect you to the city from points North, South, East, and West. Miami's numbered streets and organized network of avenues and blocks make navigation easy. Miami's public transportation system offers you quite convenient ways to get around. The Metro Bus System covers over 82 routes across the city and county. The Metromover is a free bus like vehicle that rides on a track above Downtown near all major points of interest. And if you're staying outside of town, the Metrorail's 22 miles of tracks are a great option for getting back in for high traffic events. If you're coming from a cruise into the port of Miami, the sights and sounds of the city are just minutes away. And if you've got the time despair, there are lots of fun ways to travel leisurely throughout the city whether on Segways in South Beach, rental scooters in Miami, or the rent-and-share DecoBike program in Miami Beach. You'll feel relaxed and get invigorated no matter which you choose. The bottom line is that Miami's great air service, miles of public transportation, and easy to navigate roads make travel to and around the city convenient for travelers from around the country and around the world.
