Diagnosing Common Car Problems

Did you ever wonder what causes that strange noise when you press on your brake pedal? What about that wobble in the steering wheel? John Linden: Hi! I am John Linden; Master ASE Certified Technician, and North America Training Manager for Midas International Corporation. In this video I am going to discuss how to diagnose common car problems. First I will talk about your brakes and discuss some of the issues that can occur. Then, I will cover what you should do if the oil light comes on while you are driving.

Next, I will talk about what it means if your temperature gauge is running high. Have you ever had a steering wheel wobble or shake? This could be a sign of a minor or major problem. So I will talk about what you should do if this happens. Uneven tire wear is a big problem for drivers. Quality tires for your vehicle are not cheap, so if you encounter uneven tire wear, I will discuss some things you need to be aware of and finally, I will talk about what each dashboard light means. Your vehicle talks to you through the dashboard lights. It is to your advantage to understand what each symbol or light means and what you should do if one comes on while you're driving.

When working on your vehicle, safety is important. You want to make sure you're wearing the proper safety gear. Most consumers are very capable of checking all the fluid levels, along with checking and adjusting the air pressure in the tires. If you need tools to do something on your vehicle, you may want to ask yourself, do I have the skill to do that? If you are not sure, this maybe the time to take it to a mechanic, preferably one who is ASE certified.

Before we begin, let me tell you a little bit about Midas International Corporation, and myself. Midas has been servicing passenger cars and light trucks since 1956. While we started out in the Muffler & Exhaust business, we have evolved into a full service repair and maintenance center, doing everything from brakes, oil changes, factory schedule maintenance, to tires alignments and advance engine diagnostics.

As for me, I am a former high school and college automotive instructor. I currently have 15 ASE certifications, and I am very proud to say that I have been with Midas for over 24 years as a trainer. So let's get started diagnosing those common car problems.
